A Better day Than Usual

I sat outside my house on the front steps. It was beautiful out, well better than most days. I guess you couldn’t exactly call it beautiful with all of the muggy smoke and debris. But today, you could almost make out where the sun would be in the sky. I decided that since it was one of the nicer days, I would take a walk around town.

I stood up and slowly took my time as I walked out of the driveway and onto the sidewalk. I always walked the same route every day, down to the park and around to the inner city, and back home. It was pretty nice and all. There was no one to really bother me, in the daytime at least. As I would walk, I could hear the birds singing their songs, like in every animated kids movie. That to me was quite beautiful. Just hearing the music they created was very relaxing in a way. I could never hear anything else, so yeah you could say that the sound of birds chirping was relaxing. It also took me off ease. I mean, I always had to be on the lookout, but it gave me some sort of clarity.

It was another normal day in the park. Same old rusty playground with no children running around. Sometimes I would just sit on a bench and imagine kids playing, moms watching and talking with other moms, people making their rounds, running through the park. Today I didn’t feel like doing that, it was too nice out not to keep walking. The walks usually take about an hour, but not this one. It took me a good two and a half hours to get back to my house. Before going inside, I took one last glimpse at this more desirable day than most, and thought boy is it a good day to be the only man alive.

30 Days of Happiness: Day 30 FINAL

“In the end nothing we do or say in this lifetime will matter as much as the way we have loved one another.” – Daphne Rose Kingma

“Don’t forget to fall in love with yourself first.” – Carrie Bradshaw

As I get older, I keep having a realization of love, whether that is loving one another or yourself. It’s true that you have to love yourself before someone else. Because that love you have at that moment, you’ll be able to give it to someone some day. It is no doubt that you’ll someone else even if you don’t have complete self love. It’s what’s so great about a relationship where you can love someone else. They’ll give that love, mean while you try to get the rest of that self love. After that, you’ll be able to give all of the much needed love to that one and they’ll be complete. I hope this all makes sense to you.

I’m not saying that you can’t love someone if you don’t love yourself, but if and when you do, you’ll be sure to find that love. Whether it takes you a week or a few years, you’ll find it, I promise.

I hope you all have enjoyed this 30 days of happiness, as did I! In doing these, I have found some things that I’ve forgotten about and have loved them again because they bring happiness to me. I hope you all have as well.

As I always say, remember to always choose happiness!  ❤

30 Days of Happiness: Day 29

“I find the best way to love someone is not to change them, but instead, help them reveal the greatest version of themselves.”  – Dr. Steve Maraboli

As I was thinking about what quote to use for today, I came across this one. I truly and deeply believe this on so many levels. It can relate to anyone and everyone some time during their lives.

To me, letting someone be him or herself is probably one of the best things you can do for someone else. It has come across many times in history itself that not letting one be themselves can make something small and harmless, turn into something terrible and unexpected. It shows that people who think they’re being the bigger person, aren’t really. And which shows what their personality really is.

There are many wonderful and beautiful things that can come from letting people be themselves. All the way from a dance to love to speech, and so much more. This world is full of so much and we can’t waste our precious on such poor thinking. Let others be themselves and they’ll let you be yourself.

A Long Awaited Kiss

It was 2033 and WWIII had just been won by the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. It was time for Brent to come home to sunny California from cold Russia. He had been there for a year, fighting. It was no doubt that he missed his wife anymore than she missed him. That was what he was most excited for when he came back. He hadn’t had much contact with her at all. It was maybe a call a couple times a month and it could only be for about 10 minutes each time, if that. Nothing had prepared them for this wild journey they had been forced into.

Most would think it would only be tough for Brent, being that he had been sent away for war, but there was so much put on his wife, Sasha’s, plate. She had to keep a stable income. That was the worst part for her. Her job had to cut back on what they paid her. Before the war, she was pain $17 an hour, during the war, she was pain $9. Before the war, Brent and Sasha had bought an expensive house. They did it because they both had a pretty good income. The house payment she had to make each month was too much. In order to pay for it, she had to cut out the cable, sell her most prized possessions and other belongings, only buy the essentials for groceries. Some days she went because sometimes a paycheck wouldn’t come in right away. She soon had to get another job. That one only paid $5 an hour. She had become exhausted from work overload many times, but she had to keep telling herself that others had it worse. The only thing she kept and made sure she had, was her phone. That was the only way she could hear from Brent. And she didn’t want to take that away.

Brent’s flight had just landed at 10:30 AM, and my oh my was excited. He was jumping out of his socks for the moment he could see his wife again.

He stepped out of the terminal to see many others waiting for their loved one to come and greet them. The crowd was huge. He had walked through the big wave of people many times, trying to find Sasha. He had no luck. Finally, he just stopped and looked around. And there she was, to his left. She was as radiant and beautiful the day he left. A tear escaped his eye from an overwhelming feeling of joy. Then she looked right at him. The same happened with her. They both started walking towards each other. And then a hug came. A long hug filled with so much glee. They both felt like they were in a dream of some sort, like this was too good to be real. The hug finally ended. They looked into each other’s teary eyed faces.
Brent ran his hands through Sasha’s soft hair and laid his hands on the back of her head. He slowly pushed her head toward his for a kiss. Sasha didn’t even budge, for she had waited for this moment for what seemed like an eternity. Finally their lips together at once. Brent knew that he was home when Sasha’s lips touched his.

And let the Adventure Begin

My father and I have always had a love and passion for traveling. We have been to the Taj Mahal in India all the way to the freezing Alaskan dog mushing races. We are from London, so you could see why we love the adventure or traveling. London is a beautiful place, but we know there is much more to this world than cold rainy weather. That is why we are traveling to the amazon forests. We have been wanting to go there for quite some time. I think it’s been almost three years since we’ve planned out this trip. Since there isn’t too much knowledge as to where we plan on going to, we’ve decided that bringing a couple others to help protect and make sure we’re safe won’t be a bad idea. My father and I have decided that we want to go deep down inside the forests, where there lay unknown creatures and plants. It has always been a delegate in our family of discovering new things, so we are hoping for the best.

“Samantha, the car is ready for us!” Dad shouted. I hurried and grabbed my journal. My journal was one thing that I always kept with me. My motto was that anytime is a great time to document. I quickly ran downstairs, almost falling over. Luckily my DAd was there to catch me. “Whoa, sweety. The car isn’t driving away yet.”

“Sorry, Dad. I’m just really excited.”

“Me too.” He brushed my hair back and smiled.”

“What is it? Do I have something on my face?”

“No. You just remind me so much of your mother.” It was moments like these I cherished so much. “Come on, let’s get going before we miss our flight.” And so, we endured into our trip. I couldn’t tell you how excited and happy I was, not to mention my Dad either. It seemed like he was a kid in a candy shop. It made me very happy that we both love doing the same thing.

Our flight was 14 hours. We both had gotten used to it by now. Just the flight part. The jet lag was the worst, but it seemed like we were just too ecstatic to be bothered by it too much.

We had finally reached the hot amazon forests of South America. It was bit of a nuisance getting to where we wanted, but we finally got there. We hadn’t even gotten a foot into the forests, but I could already tell how beautiful everything was. The flowers were so vibrant and big. I’ve never seen such big flowers before. And the trees, oh the trees. They were so tall and strong. Just by a touch I could already tell they’ve lived a long and interesting life.

“Dad, have you ever seen such a magnificent forest before?”

“Not ever,” he said astonished. This was going to be one of our best trips, ever.

“Alright everyone, let’s get the show on the road. We don’t want to be wandering to a good camp site when it’s dark,” said Michael. He was one of the two men helping us on the trip.

“He said it best,” Dad said. And so the journey really began. We walked and took a few breaks for a good five hours. We had arrived here in the afternoon, so today wasn’t going to be full of too much adventure, but boy did we see a lot. There was an unbelievable amount of birds. I hadn’t seen so many different shapes, and colors before. Other than birds, trees, and plants, we didn’t see much. Hopefully tomorrow we’ll see more. “Sleep well, darling.” Dad said as he left my tent and to his for the night.

“You too.” I don’t think I’ve ever had a better night’s sleep than that one. It was the next morning and set off early. We wanted to see as much as we could in this trip. We ad been walking for an hour and hadn’t seen anything new. “Do you think there are people who live here?”

“I would love to see, but I don’t think so,” Dad said

“I don’t think you want to see them if there were any,” said Dominic. He was the other one traveling with us.

“Why not?” I asked.

“Natives in lands like these don’t take a liking to strangers, no matter who they are,” Dominic said. “Honestly, I would rather walk on nails than be caught with them.” I turned back looking forward. Before I kind of wished that we would see new people, but now I don’t want to. I started to have a bad gut feeling ever since we talked about it.

“Is everything alright, Samantha?” Dad asked nicely.

“Yes, I’ve just had some bad feelings since our last conversation.”

“Don’t worry about that sweetie. Everything will be alright, I promise. We’ve been here for only a day and a half, and we haven’t seen anything bad. Knock on wood,” he said as he knocked on a tree right next to us. He always made me smile and laugh. I think that’s what my favorite thing about him was. Other than the fact that he was so strong since Mom had died. “Come on, let’s continue.” It had been almost three hours until we made our next stop. It was so frustrating that one of our most wanted place to visit had nothing special and interesting appear. Oh well I thought. Good things will come.

“What exactly is it you’re looking for Mr. Burns?” Michael asked.

“We’re looking for something new to discover and it is a trip. So it’s something that we like to do and-.” Out of nowhere we heard yells and whoops. Everyone stood up and just looked all around, trying to find what was making that noise. I turned to my Dad. “And that’s what we’re looking for, boys,” he said with a grin. We continued to walk for another few hundred yards. We stopped again from hearing the loud yells.

“I think you might want to see this, Mr. Burns,” Michael said looking straight above him. We quietly walked over to where he was standing and looked up. There was a city, strung between the trees, and the people walked on bridges made of branches.

“Are you seeing this, Samantha?” Dad asked.

“Yes.” This was more than I’d ever imagine. More than I’d ever want from a journey. I knew this was going to be great.

“And let the adventure begin,” he said.

30 Days of Happiness: Day 28

“Don’t be anything you don’t want to be, always be yourself.” – Miley Cyrus

“I keep telling myself that I’m a human being, an imperfect human being who’s not made to look like a doll.” – Emma Watson

“Don’t chase people. Be yourself, do your own things and work hard. The right people – the ones who really belong in your life – will come to you. And stay.” – Will Smith

These were just a few quotes from some very well known celebrities. I chose these people because I grew up watching their work. Everything that they did was towards something big. And I’m sure that when someone wanted them to do something that they weren’t up to, they didn’t do it. It was because they wanted to be themselves, and who wouldn’t when someone is doing something they love. Those celebrities were just like us before. They lived normal days as a normal family. They do know what it’s like to have others tell them to be something else. Something that everyone wants them to be. In today’s society, celebrities are looked up to by so many and different kinds of people, and media wants to show those people the “perfect” person. It’s no doubt that we, as fans have liked that too. But when the celebrity is stripped down of everything, that’s what they want you to see. At least that’s what I hope for the most.
Anyways, I know I’m rambling now, but I hope this all make sense. In the end, you truly need to be yourself in order to be the happiest you can be. That’s what I have learned so far.

30 Days of Happiness: Day 27

“Don’t be shy about asking for help. It doesn’t mean you’re weak, it only means you’re wise.”

  • Unknown

Looking to others for advice is great to do. Whenever you’re in dire need of it, go for it. The worst that could happen is that the person you’re seeking to doesn’t know exactly what you’re problem or situation is, so they give advice in a different perspective. Even though it may not be what you’re looking for, thank them for their words and their times.

It’s hard to ask for advice sometimes, and it might not be something you want to hear either. But in the end it’s probably what’s best. That is especially if you’re asking from someone you trust the most in your life. And if it’s something that you didn’t like, it probably means that they’re just looking out for you, because they want what’s best. No matter how crazy it may sound to you, it’s just what they feel will help you the most. So don’t give a hissy fit, you were the one asking, and you received. In the end you may even consider what they said.
All that matters is that you have someone in your life that you can trust in practically every way. This way, you can go to them in situations that you have. Because I know for sure that if they truly care about you, they’ll want to help out as much as possible.

More to This sea

Being a fish wasn’t an easy job. There were a lot of things we had to worry about. Nets, sharks, humans, Jelly fish, I could go on and on. That just goes to show you how much us, friendly fish, go through on a day to day basis.

You’re probably wondering what kind of fish I am. Any guesses? No? I’m a Goldfish. My name is Milly and am 30 days old. I hope to grow to be 30 years old, but that’s very unlikely for Goldfish. Like I said before, there are just so many things that keep us from reaching that age. But my purpose in life is to beat all of those obstacles. I want to tell my great great great grandkids about all of my adventures one day.

Today was the day I leave home and explore the wide sea.

“Now Milly, are you sure you don’t want to stay here with Mom and Dad? We would love for you to stick around.” Mom said.

“Mom, I already told you what I want. I’m already 30 days old. You can’t keep treating me like I’m a child.”

“Oh, I know. It’s just so hard to see my baby goldfish leave.”

“Honey, she is going to be alright. She’s a big girl now. She can protect herself.” Dad said. That was very suspicious of him. Even I know he wouldn’t ever want me to leave.

“I know, I know.” Mom wiped her tears away and handed me my pouch. “I packed some small crustaceans in there for you. I know they’re your favorite.” I took the pouch and slung it over my back.

“Thank you, Mom.” I hugged my Mom and Dad and said my goodbyes. As I swam away, I could still hear my Mom telling me to be safe. Once I got out of their sight, my good friend, Ajax swam up to me. “Where do you think you’re going?”

“With you,” he said plainly. I knew my Dad wouldn’t let me go alone.

“Let me guess, my Dad talked to you last night and told you that he wanted you to go with me.”

“Yep, that’s exactly what he said, but more grim.” I stopped and so did he.

“Look, I can do this on my own. I don’t need anyone to babysit me. I’m not a little kid.”

“Hey, I’m not the one who said it, you did. Have you ever thought in our 30 days of friendship, that maybe I want more in this sea too? That maybe I want to go on this journey because you’ll be there.”

“Wait, what? Because I’ll be there?”

“No, nevermind,” Ajax said nervously. I kind of knew he had a small crush on me… And maybe I felt the same too.

“Fine, I guess you can come.”

“Really?!” he said excitedly. “I mean, I would have come anyways if you said no.” We started to laugh at each other.
“Come on, we have a sea to explore!”

The Unexpected Bully

I walked to my locker, as usual when first getting to school. When I opened it up, I noticed a paper fell. I picked it up in confusion as to why it was there. I opened it up and read it.

Dear Olivia,

What a stupid name. I can’t believe your parents actually named you that. I hope you know that you’re as stupid as your name. Let’s see what else you are… Oh, dumb, slut, bitch, whore, cunt. I could go on for hours, but you’re not worth that. You’re a worthless piece of dog shit. No one likes you, not even your so called friend, Liz.

Sincerely, everyone

What is this? Why would anyone write this to me? I’ve never done anything to anyone. I looked around me to see if the person who wrote this nasty letter was watching for my reaction. No one seemed to be looking. I didn’t understand, I was nice to everyone. I hardly even talked to anyone.

“What’s that?” Liz asked. I quickly folded the letter and put it in my pocket.

“Nothing, just some notes,” I said nervously.

“Mhmm, probably some love note you’re keeping from me,” Liz said jokingly. I wish. “So, anything interesting happen over the weekend?”

“No, just the same old same old. What about you?” She started smiling like she just won the lottery. “What is it?”

“Tyler Stephens started talking to me.”

“Wait, the Tyler Stephens? Only the most popular guy in this school, Tyler Stephens?”

“Hehe, yep!”

“Wow, how and why?” Liz smile turned into a frown.

“Are you trying to tell me that I’m not his type?” I knew she was joking.

“No, I just mean… “ I didn’t know what to say. “ You know what I mean.”

“I know and I don’t know! He just started texting me Friday night, which is weird because I feel like he would be at a party drinking.” There would be no shocker at that if he would. “It was so weird, but so great. I feel like we really connected.”

“Well, I’m really happy for you, Liz.” The bell rang for first hour and we walked to our English class.

The rest of the day was normal. There wasn’t anyone making fun of me or anything. Maybe is was someone playing a joke on me. Hopefully. The next day was pretty normal as well, until I got home. It was around six and I was doing my homework when I heard my phone buzz. I looked to see who texted me. It said Unknown. I looked at the text and it said.

“Wow, didn’t thank me for your letter? That’s why no one like you.”

I exited out of the text and put my phone down. I never did anything wrong to anyone. I just didn’t understand as to why someone would be doing this to me. I left my phone on my bed when I went down to have dinner. When I came back up, I had 15 new text messages from the same person. They all kept saying how no one likes me, that I’m worthless, and all these mean names. I just couldn’t understand. I went to bed early that night.

The next day, I walked into school feeling like crap. I walked to my locker, hoping there would be no letter. I opened it and there wasn’t. A huge breath of relief escaped my mouth.

“How come you didn’t respond to my text last night?” I turned around and it was Jessica Lane. The most popular girl in high school, well, in the 10th grade.

“I don’t know what you mean. I didn’t get any texts from you.”

“Oh, of course you did. I sent about 20 of them.” She was the one. The one who wrote that nasty letter and said all of those mean things. “Well, since you didn’t respond, you’ll be getting some more of those. Okay, slut?” she said as her and her group of friends walked away laughing like I told them a funny joke. I’ve never done anything to her, not ever.

“What was that about?” Liz asked.

“Oh, nothing. They were just talking to me.”

“Just talking? Why would they talk to you? No offence, it’s just they’re mean, stuck up girls.”

“It think it was just a joke. They said they liked my jeans.”

“Well, if they say anything to you other than that, let me know. I could beat them up, if you wanted.” I smiled and started to laugh. “ What? You don’t think I could?”

“No, of course my fighting queen.”

“Come on jerk, let’s get to class.” Liz always made me feel better, but I wasn’t going to tell her this. This bully stuff was just going to be between me and Jessica.

The rest of the day was alright, just a few times when Jessica and I made eye contact. Every time we did, she and her friends would laugh. She probably said something mean when they did. Walking home felt like forever. I just wanted to lay in bed and sleep. And that’s just what I did. I slept until my brother came and woke me up.

“Wake up sleepy head!” Kyle said laying on top of me. “We go to the same school, it’s not that tiring. I mean Mr. Hoops’ class is pretty, but still.”

“You’re crushing me, get off!” He got and sat next to me. He was a senior and one of the popular ones. The opposite of me.

“Seriously, what’s up? You’re never like this.”

“I’m just tired.”

“But you went to bed early last night.”

“I’m a girl.”

“You’ve got that right. I’ve never seen someone’s hair look so messy after sleeping.” I laid back down and put the covers over my head. “If you don’t get up right now, I’m going to carry you down there.” I stayed under the sheets to see if he would. “Five… Four… Three, two one. You asked for this!”

“Hey, you counted too fast!” And then he flipped my covers up, lifted me up, and flung me up and over his shoulder.

“Nope, you asked for it.” He actually carried me all the way downstairs to the kitchen. And to make matters worse, he started tickling me.

“Stop it!” I hated being tickled.

“Kyle, put Liv down and come so we can have dinner,” Mom said.

“Fine, but if I ever have to come get you again, you’re going to regret it.”

“Whatever, I could beat you up,” I said.

“I’d like to see.”

“Me too,” Dad said. So would I. Kyle was that typical big and muscular guy. He could probably break my arm like a twig.

Having dinner made me feel a lot better. That’s what I loved about my family, everyone laughed and made everyone else feel special. I went to bed that night, feeling 10 times better. But when I woke up to my phone buzzing at midnight, that good fuzzy feeling soon turned to disgust. About another 15 large texts came to me from Jessica. I turned my phone off and went to bed feeling like crap again.

The bullying went on for six months, but it kept getting worse and worse. She would stop me in the halls when no one was around and push me against wall. She would tell me face to face that I was nothing. I shouldn’t be here. No one likes me, not even my family. She would keep sending me those texts everyday. She made sure that my life was miserable. And it was. I couldn’t tell you how many times I cried because of what she said. I didn’t want this anymore.

I finally decided that I couldn’t take it anymore. We had the day off of school today. This was a perfect time, because only Kyle and I would be home. I made sure he was downstairs when I did it.

I walked to the bathroom, opened the medicine cabinet and grabbed a bottle of pills. I didn’t know what they were, I just made sure the bottle was full. I grabbed the bottle and the glass of water. I sat down on the rug in front of the tub and took all of the pills. I forced all of them down with the water. I set the glass back down. I took a deep breath and down on the rug. I cried, until I couldn’t cry anymore. Everything started to turn blurry, then I saw Kyle running towards me. He was yelling and shaking me. I faintly saw him grab the empty medicine bottle, throw it down, and lift me up.

I woke up in a strange room. I was in a hospital. I saw my Mom, Dad, and brother there. They were all crying. All I could think is why I’m still alive?

30 Days of Happiness: Day 26

Kindness has always been a top priority for myself. It’s what makes others feel at their most comfortable. In recent 2015 live action Disney movie, Cinderella, That was teaching so many different lessons about being kind. I have pulled a couple of my favorite quotes from the movie about kindness.

“Where there is kindness there is goodness. Where there is goodness there is magic.”

“Have courage and be kind.”

These quotes, I believe should be used by everyone on a daily basis. They will give you clarity in desperate times in need. And as I had said a couple days ago, you’ll take a step back. Once you do so, you’ll get that very much needed clarity.

I believe that this will also help when you want to be the bigger person in a situation. Let’s say for instance that you are arguing with someone else and they just can’t get over the fact that they’re right. In most cases, not all, but most, they aren’t right. They’ll do whatever it takes for them to get noticed and then people will show up. You don’t want to be the one that looks bad, but just look around and the way you’re acting. If you’re spitting back the same type of attitude, it’s not going to get you anywhere. Just simply take a breath and agree for their sake, or if you have something clever to say that won’t hurt anyones feelings, then go right for that. It’s as simple as that.
