“What does the moonlight smell like?” I asked Demetrie.
“It’s hard to say.”
“But you’ve been collecting it for years now.”
“I know, I know. Let me think about it.” He closed his eyes and concentrated. “I’ve got it! It smells like vanilla, and pear, and wild jasmine, and white sandalwood.” It sounded like he was describing the perfume I wear.
“That’s sound pretty familiar,” I said.
“Why would you say that?”
“Those are only all of the ingredients I use to make my perfume, and you’re the only one I’ve ever told what it’s made of.”
“Maybe it’s just a coincident.”
“I guess you know what the moonlight smells like then.”
“I guess I do.” I turned to him and began to tickle and poke his sides. “Tell me the truth!”
“Okay, okay, I will!” I stopped tickling him and we both settled back down. “I lied. The scent I was describing was yours.”
“That’s what I thought.” I joked. “So what does it smell like then?”
“It smells exactly like that,” he said.
“Why would the moonlight smell like me?” I asked confused.
“Because the moonlight smells of what your desires are.” We both looked into each other’s eyes in silence.
“What are you saying then?” I asked.
“Would you go to the Fall Ball with me, Ella?” I was pretty sure my jaw had dropped to the ground.
“Me? But I’m just your friend. I couldn’t possibly go to the ball with you.”
“But that’s why I want you to go. You’re my best friend and I wouldn’t want to go with anybody else.” I was probably a cherry from me blushing so much. “Hehe, you’re cute when you blush.” Stop it Demetri! You’re making it worse.
“I-I don’t know. I’m not very good at that kind of stuff.”
“That’s alright, I’m not either. We can be bad together. Please, Ella. I would love it if we went together.” I had no other choice than to agree.
“Okay? Really?! Yes!” Demetrie began to fly in circles from his excitement, but came back down quickly because he was getting dizzy.
“Am I really your best friend?” I asked.
“Of course. Who else would be?” He grabbed my hands and looked into my eyes. “Ella, I like you, I really like you. You’ve been there for me for as long as I could remember, and now I want to repay you by taking you to the ball.” I hugged him so fast, we almost toppled over. “You never said yes.”
“Yes, Demetrie. I will go to the Fall Ball with you.”
