Ms. Ballings? An Escort?!

“Dude, did you know Ms. Ballings used to be an escort?” Sam said.

“Yeah, right. Ms. Ballings? She seems too sweet and innocent to ever do anything like that,” I said.

“Seriously, my Dad said he went on a ‘date’ with her before.”

“Are you sure it wasn’t an actual date?”

“Yeah, I’m sure seeing my Dad give her a bunch of money before going out wasn’t an actual date,” he said sarcastically. “Of course it wasn’! Who gives someone a chunk of cash before going?”

“Did he say she was an escort?”

“Yeah. I asked him about it and he said he wanted to try something different.”

“That’s kind of weird, paying someone to go on a date with them.”

“Some people are desperate. Hey, maybe my Dad told your Dad about her and that’s who he’s going out with tonight.” My Dad going on a date with an escort? I wouldn’t think he would ever do that. Mom only passed away two years ago.

“No, he’s probably just hanging out with a friend,” I said doubtfully.

“My Dad started dating a few years after my Mom died, so with him going out now wouldn’t be too bad. You know, Dad’s do get lonely after a while.”

“I know, but it kind of seems too early still.”

Sam patted me on my back. “Hey, don’t think about it too much. Just be glad your Dad is getting out.”

“Yeah.”

“Kyle, come down here!” Dad yelled.

“Time to meet the date,” Sam teased. I laughed and headed downstairs.

“Kyle, I’d like you to meet my date for the night.” I looked at the couch and saw the one and only, Ms. Ballings sitting there.

“Oh, Kyle, this is your father?” she asked not seeming embarrassed whatsoever.

“Ah, yeah…” I so blown away, I couldn’t think of what to say.

“Is Layne your teacher?” Dad asked.

“Yeah,” I said still shocked.

“I guess I don’t need to do any introductions. Here’s some money so you can order some pizza.”

“Thanks. Hey, Dad.”

“Yeah?”

I pulled him into the kitchen and quietly asked, “Are you guys going on a date?”

“Yeah.”

“Are you by any chance paying her to go on the date?” I asked hoping he would say no.

“Yeah, actually. Sam’s Dad said he did the same thing, said he had a lot of fun and recommended her to me. I figure I’d try it out and see how it goes.” I stared at him with my mouth wide open. “Alright, well we’ve got to get going. I made reservations. You and Sam have fun tonight.” And with that, my Dad and Ms. Ballings left for their date. All I could do was stand there in shock. I heard Sam come up behind me.
“What’d I tell ya?”
