30 Days of Thankfulness Day 8: Small Things

Compliments on your outfit, given a flower, offered a drink, and even a simple hello. These and many more are the small things that people encounter quite frequently. I used to never think anything of them when growing up because I thought it was what people just do out of the goodness of themselves. But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve noticed that it’s not always going to be like that. There will be many times in your life when you open a door for someone and they won’t say a thing. Or if you smile at someone and they just look away like it never happened. In the moment you’ll think poorly of them, but you can’t do that. I for sure catch myself doing that from time to time, but it’s not good for yourself. You have to think of why they wouldn’t do anything. Maybe they didn’t smile back because they’re shy or maybe they didn’t say thank you when you opened the door for them because they’re simply rude. I think you know where I’m getting at.

Anyways, just appreciate the small things that come to you. If someone gives you a free t-shirt because they think you deserve it, don’t decline. If someone says they like your outfit, say thank you. This is pretty simple etiquettcy that shouldn’t be overlooked. Cherishing the small things in life will surely make things a little bit happier.
